We've just come in to 21 chickens, coop, pen, feeding trays, roost and all...producing a dozen eggs a day. I've got no idea how old they are ect..I'd assume they quit laying at some point? do you eventually eat laying chickens?
I'm not sure where to start with the whole thing, I've been reading up on the mix of stuff you give chickens(scratch/ oyster shell/Feed)..Anyone keep birds and have any insight?

My ex lived in a very affluent area. $1,000,000 homes. Some Russians moved in and brought chickens. Lol. Rooster was loud as fuck. They’d fly around the backyard and sit in trees and shit. Lol

this is why they only allow laying hens in the city here...

I only like game roosters, though, so I don’t mess with the laying hens. My family and a lot of folks I know do, though, but they now know what I told them from the start, laying hens and fresh eggs are awesome, but they’re not worth the upkeep and mess they make. You won’t even or barely break even and are just better off buying them from someone else...

You want them to have coverage or hawks will get them . Close the hen house at night or raccoons will rip them up they won’t even eat them just bleed them. There funny animals if you have ticks Grubbs other insects they will eat them . Fresh eggs to eat you can’t go wrong . We have mallards as well there very social and funny

my wife has some, we started with 12 now down to 3, lost some to foxes and birds of prey. We live in the country and are surrounded by woods. I don't like them free ranging but my wife lets them. They can be messy but they eat lot of bugs. Pretty smart birds too. She has them for the eggs, not meat birds.

Give them a watermelon and watch. It’s awesome!

Look into a chicken tractor to let them free range...

Damn, I just realized I used chicken and watermelon together. Dammit, MattyMatt, you f’n racist!! Lmao!

For real though, it’s one of the best treats you can give them, and it’s freaking awesome to watch them eat it...

My friends do. I know they let them roam during the day and lock them up at night, like somebody else already said

I guess they can be social animals, something I never expected

I have 5, soon to be 6, but Bozzie's a useless twat so can learn this shit for himself

one clue: if you get chicks and one starts screaming every morning, it's a rooster. Roosters don't lay eggs ;)

second clue: expired human food can typically be great chicken meals, within reason
